History and Description of Organization

The Inter-Ethnic Forum of Houston (IEF) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1994 to advance the quality of inter-ethnic relations in the Greater Houston area.

The current board of IEF is comprised of nine members representing business, school or community organizations as well as various ethnic communities. The organization is a 501c (3) tax - exempt entity.

Since 1994, IEF has held four major adult forums on race relations. In 1996 IEF recognized the need for a forum for teens and developed, with the help of a teen focus group, the Teen Summit on Race Relations. The first Teen Summit on Race Relations was held in 1997, and it has become a highly successful annual event.

IN MEMORY

Awanda Whitworth, passed away in April, 2010. As a founding member of IEF, her dedication and commitment to the Inter-Ethnic Forum of Houston (IEF) was relentless. Awanda was passionate and joyful as she coordinated and organized every detail for each forum. Her legacy will be the many people that continue the good work of IEF.  Rest in peace, Awanda.
